A few of the Bay Builders & Remodeling team, here to make your dream home come true

We are so proud of this "home remodel"!

Before After
How is that a remodel, you ask?
If this looks like completely new construction, it mostly is.

There are few new homes being built in the Silicon Valley on empty lots. Most had an existing, old home, that was demolished to make way for the new. But by retaining enough of the existing structure, the project qualifies as a remodel rather than new construction in the eyes of the building department. We take this approach whenever we can for three key reasons:

Expanded foundation going in.

For this particular home “remodel”, we preserved a significant portion of the existing foundation. From there, we demolished everything above ground, added 700 square feet to the main floor, and expanded the upper floor by 300 square feet.

The result? A stunning, new "remodeled" home, delivered efficiently and cost-effectively.

Bay Builders came highly recommended by our agent and turned out to be one of the best teams we have worked with. They have worked on so many large projects, nothing would seem difficult for them to build or implement.

Bay Builders came highly recommended by our agent and turned out to be one of the best teams we have worked with. Our project involved remodeling a fairly large kitchen area, parts of living room(s), master suite, and several other bathrooms. From the very beginning,

Gilad was able to provide guidance and confidence for the process. They have worked on so many large projects, nothing would seem difficult for them to build or implement.

Communication: Eshed, our project manager, has been amazing to work with. He is so cheerful and on top of things. He would send us regular (almost daily) updates, keep track of list of materials / fixtures, what needs to be ordered, when would fixtures be delivered, etc. Every change order was clearly itemized and emailed for Docusign. We felt extremely comfortable having him take care of things.

Process: the entire process from design, to demo, to installation, and final touch-up was seamless. They are well organized and well staffed, every component of the job was arranged and planned out perfectly, it is a very tightly run and efficient business workflow. No time was wasted waiting to shuffle workers around, nothing needed to be worked on twice because someone made a mistake.

Quality of work: These guys have a high bar, and can deliver exactly what the renderings look like. Gilad is extremely detail oriented, and pushes the entire team to get all the details right.

Again, it has been a pleasure working with the team, and we can wholeheartedly recommend their service!

Common Home Remodeling Questions

Answer: Begin by identifying your goals and needs for the remodeling project. Consider what aspects of your home aren’t working for you and what you’d like to change or improve. Create a budget, prioritize your wants versus needs, and do some initial research on design ideas and materials. Once you have a clear vision, consult with a general contractor or an architect to discuss feasibility, costs, and timelines.

Answer: The cost of a home remodeling project varies greatly depending on the scope, materials, and location. On average, you might spend between $10,000 to $50,000 for a single-room renovation, while whole-home remodels can range from $100,000 to $500,000 or more. It’s important to get a detailed estimate from your contractor and be prepared for unexpected costs by setting aside an additional 10-20% of your budget for contingencies.

Answer: The timeline for a home remodeling project in Stanford depends on the scope of work. A small project like a bathroom remodel might take 3-4 weeks, while a kitchen remodel could take 6-12 weeks. Larger projects, such as adding an extension or whole-home remodels, can take several months. Your contractor should provide a detailed timeline and keep you updated on progress.

Answer: Most home remodeling projects, especially those involving structural changes, electrical work, plumbing, or major renovations, require permits. The specific permits needed vary by location and project type. Your general contractor should know which permits are necessary and handle the application process for you, ensuring that the work complies with local building codes.

Answer: Start by gathering inspiration from design magazines, websites, and social media platforms like Pinterest or Instagram. Consider the style of your home and what will complement it. Work with a designer or your contractor to choose materials that fit your budget, lifestyle, and aesthetic preferences. Don’t forget to think about durability, maintenance, and long-term value when selecting materials.

Answer: To stay within your budget, start by setting a realistic budget that includes all aspects of the project, including materials, labor, permits, and unexpected costs. Prioritize your must-haves and be willing to compromise on less critical items. Communicate openly with your building contractor about your budget and ask for regular updates on spending. It’s also wise to avoid making changes once the project is underway, as this can lead to additional costs.

Answer: Stanford home remodeling projects most definitely can increase your home’s value, especially new room additions, kitchen and bathroom remodels, adding a deck, or improving curb appeal. However, the return on investment (ROI) varies depending on the project, your local market, and the quality of the work. Generally, you can expect to recoup 50-80% of your investment when you sell your home. Your contractor or a local real estate expert can provide guidance on which projects offer the best ROI in Stanford

Answer: Living in your home during a remodel can be challenging, but with careful planning, it’s possible. Set up a temporary kitchen or bathroom if those areas are being remodeled, and designate a space in your home that’s off-limits to construction. Communicate with your contractor about the work schedule, noise levels, and dust control. If the project is extensive, you may want to consider staying elsewhere temporarily, especially during the most disruptive phases.

Answer: It’s not uncommon for unexpected issues to arise during a remodel, such as discovering hidden damage or code violations from a previous builder. The key is to remain flexible and have a contingency budget in place to handle these surprises. Your building contractor should inform you immediately of any issues, provide solutions, and adjust the timeline and budget as needed. Open communication with your contractor is essential to navigate these challenges smoothly.

Answer: To make your home remodel environmentally friendly, choose sustainable materials like bamboo flooring, recycled glass countertops, or low-VOC paints. Consider energy-efficient appliances, windows, and insulation to reduce your home’s energy consumption. Bay Builders & Remodeling has extensive experience in green building practices and can help you make choices that reduce your environmental impact. Additionally, repurposing or donating old materials can help minimize waste.
