From Breaking Ground to Final Walk-Through
Almost invariably, the first question we get from clients who have just chosen Bay Builders & Remodeling for their home construction or home remodeling project is, “What’s the process going to look like?” It’s a great question—and whether you’ve just partnered with us as your general contractor, you’re exploring what working with us might be like, or you’re working with another contractor, we’re happy to answer.
And so, here’s Part B* of our step-by-step guide to help you understand what to expect as we bring your vision to life. We begin with breaking ground.

1. Site Preparation and Foundation
The next step is getting the site ready. This includes clearing the land, addressing any grading or leveling issues, and preparing for the foundation. If your project involves a remodel or tear-down, this is also when we’ll safely manage any demolition.
Once the site is prepped, the foundation is poured or constructed, providing a solid base for your home. Whether it’s a concrete slab, a crawl space, or a full basement, this stage ensures the structure is stable and ready to grow upward.
Timeline: About 2-4 weeks.
2. Framing: The Skeleton of Your Home
This is where your home begins to take shape. Framing involves building the walls, floors, and roof, creating the “skeleton” of your house. During this phase, you’ll see the outlines of rooms, windows, and doorways for the first time—it’s an exciting milestone!
Timeline: Around 2-4 weeks.
3. Plumbing, Electrical, and HVAC Installation
Next, we focus on what makes your home functional and comfortable. Licensed professionals will install the plumbing, electrical wiring, and HVAC systems. This is also when we ensure everything meets safety codes and energy efficiency standards, so your home is built to last.
Timeline: Typically 1-2 weeks.
4. Insulation
Insulation is added to walls, ceilings, and floors to regulate your home’s temperature year-round. This step might not be the most glamorous, but it’s one of the most important for creating a cozy, energy-efficient space.
Timeline: 1-2 weeks.
5. Drywall and Interior Finishes
With insulation in place, drywall is installed to create the interior walls. This is when your home begins to feel more like, well, a home! Interior details like trim work may also start to take shape during this phase.
Timeline: Around 1-3 weeks.
6. Exterior Finishes
While the interior progresses, we’ll also work on the outside of your home. Whether it’s siding, brick, or another finish, this stage ensures your house is both beautiful and protected from the elements.
Timeline: Approximately 1-3 weeks.
7. Flooring and Cabinet Installation
Now it’s time to bring in the elements that define your home’s personality. Flooring is installed, and cabinets are added to your kitchen, bathrooms, and other areas. You’ll really start to see your design choices come to life.
Timeline: About 1-2 weeks.
8. Fixtures and Appliances
The finishing touches are added—light fixtures, faucets, appliances, and more. These final details make your house functional and ready for everyday living.
Timeline: Typically 1 week.
9. Final Inspections and Walkthrough
Before handing over the keys, we’ll conduct thorough inspections to ensure everything is up to code and finished to our high standards. Then, we’ll walk through the home with you, making sure every detail meets your expectations. This is your moment to see the full result of your vision brought to life.
Timeline: Usually 1 week.
